Patent Attorney

We are saddened to report that our friend, Dan Dettlaff, passed away on December 7, 2014.  Dan is survived by his children, Stephanie, Heidi & Joey; grandchildren, Cameron, Colby, Evelyn & JT; parents, John & Patricia Dettlaff; brother Greg; and many more family and friends.

He was a dedicated patent attorney and knew the Patent Office rules and procedures better than anyone.  And, although he loved his work, he valued his friendships and family above all.  He was a terrific colleague and will be dearly missed by all at BCH.

Dan’s practice included preparation and prosecution of domestic and international patent applications in high-tech electrical, mechanical, biotech, computer and Internet arts.  He was experienced in drafting appeal briefs, and providing opinions on patent infringement, non-infringement, and validity issues.  Dan’s key areas of technical expertise included electrical circuits and signal processing; semiconductor design and fabrication; medical and biomedical devices; magnetic media fabrication; communications technologies/protocols, including VOIP telephony; business and financial methods; and e-commerce.

Prior to becoming a patent attorney, Dan was a practicing electrical engineer for 20 years in the power generation, transmission, and distribution industry.  Dan was also a member of the Marine Corps.
